The US-based technology giant Google is one of the most important names in the internet industry. Because the company offers dozens of services to institutions, organizations and even developers as well as daily consumers. As such, the way of anyone with internet access is somehow merging with Google. Now, however, one of the key figures in the internet industry seems to have decided to break ties with Google. The company, which is preparing to break ties with Google, is Cloudflare. USA based firm; DDoS provides services in various areas such as protection, domain name service and internet security. According to the statements made by Cloudflare’s co-founder Matthew Prince, the company will no longer use the “reCAPTCHA” service offered by Google. Cloudflare will use “hCaptcha” instead of Google’s reCAPTCHA service. reCAPTCHA is a security service that we encounter most of the time, and sometimes even annoying. The reCAPTCHA, which is likely to come across when you enter any website, determines whether the login attempt to the site has been carried out by a real user or whether this attempt has been done through a bot. Google offers some visuals with the reCAPTCHA service and wants these images to be selected correctly. reCAPTCHA is an important service for the security of websites. So why does a company that provides direct internet security services give up Google’s reCAPTCHA? Answering this question, Prince states that Google now wants millions of dollars for this service on an annual basis, and that Cloudflare would have to raise to meet this cost, so they had to give up reCAPTCHA. Cloudflare will use hCaptcha instead of reCAPTCHA Prince has announced that they will prefer Intuition Machines, a company based in the USA, for photo authentication system. In other words, websites that serve via Cloudflare will now use hCaptcha instead of Google’s reCAPTCHA. Almost identical to Google’s service, hCaptcha will continue to secure websites, while exploding a much lower cost for Cloudflare. Cloudflare’s transition to hCaptcha will make things even easier for the company. In fact, the company will have overcome some of its problems while using reCAPTCHA. For example, reCAPTCHA was sometimes blocked in China, causing extra hassle for Cloudflare. However, hCaptcha is not exposed to such blocking, which is an advantage for both website developers in China and Cloudflare. A second problem that Cloudflare survived by switching to hCaptcha is Google’s data collection policy, which sometimes causes controversy. Addressing this issue, Prince states that hCaptcha collects much less data about users, so they will not have to worry about their customers. Prince did not make a statement about when the conversion process will be completed and when consumers will encounter hCaptcha.
