The coronavirus, which was first detected in Wuhan, China and spread to other countries in a short time, has been seen all over the world. The virus has been seen in more than 3 million 270 thousand people according to the data announced so far and more than 230 thousand people died. The coronavirus, which continues to be effective, has indirectly affected all sectors of the world as a result of the measures taken. Almost every company has stopped its production in the automotive sector, which is among the sectors most affected by the virus. When and which company will start production? As the coronavirus continued to spread less rapidly than in the previous period, changes were observed in the measures taken by some companies. A few automakers in Europe and the US opened some of their factories for production, while other manufacturers postponed the removal of the measures taken to a later date. So what’s the situation with the world’s biggest auto manufacturers? Volkswagen: Before looking at other manufacturers, it would be useful to explain the situation at Volkswagen, since the company announced that it would start production at the Chattanooga production facility in the USA from May 3, 2020, but after this announcement, it was announced that the company gave up this and that production will start at an unexpected date. On the other hand, at the company’s Wolfsburg facility in Germany, things did not proceed as in the USA. The company restarted production at this factory on April 27, 2020. Toyota: Another major automaker Toyota has announced that it will continue stopping its operations in North America for another week. Like Volkswagen, Toyota would actually restart production soon (May 4), but the company postponed this date to May 11. BMW and Audi: German car giants BMW and Audi have opened two different plants. While BMW opened the BMW Welt Experience Center in Munich for its customers, it did not open its museum for sightseeing. Audi re-started production on April 29 in Ingolstadt, Germany. A3 and Q2 models are currently being produced in this plant of Audi. Ford, Fiat and General Motors: General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have not made a statement so far, and production at the facilities is not going on at the moment, but according to The Wall Street Journal, all three companies will restart production on May 18. General Motors has recently shared security protocols it has agreed to protect its workers.
